Flight into Snowy Auckland

We left Melbourne early in the morning for Auckland. We used our excess Skywards miles from Emirates to upgrade to business class, from our return trip to UK last Christmas. Another worthwhile upgrade to enjoy a fresh morning sunrise, champagne breakfast and a good window seat in front of the engine. Before leaving for New Zealand, we had checked the weather forecast – nothing too extreme. However shortly before our descent into Auckland, around midday local time, the captain radioed through to advise it was just 3°C! Just before we crossed land at Bethells beach, we saw some fluffy snow clouds, which was quite surreal. Decided as we’ve taken photos of the city before, we’d shoot a long video instead – starting with Eden Park in the city before moving onto Motuihe Island, Waiheke Island and the Hauraki Gulf:

Plus a few photos:

It was once we had landed, we realised there was reports of snow falling around several parts of Auckland. The first occurrence in over 40 years!
