Introducing one of the coolest weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. Janma & Adam travelled from Australia to wed in one of the world’s most idyllic spots for a wedding. The Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park as an incredible reserve with our tallest peaks of New Zealand. Mt Cook itself stands ominously in the backdrop at 3,724m (12,218 feet), and we could see it throughout Janma & Adam’s wedding celebrations that took place at The Hermitage.
Following their ceremony we were whisked up to Liebig Dome at 8,000 feet on one of the most amazing helicopter rides I’ve been on. Ok, it was the best – thanks Heliworks! There’s some heli footage also in here at the bottom to give you an idea of what it’s like soaring across the Aoraki National Park.
The weather was magical, with a massive dump of snow just a few days earlier leaving a white paradise. There was endless sunshine, clear skies and no wind. A year earlier we realised it was going to be a new moon, meaning perfect conditions for night photos (if there were no clouds). Luck was on our side, and you’ll need to check out the last few shots, which were taken over 90 minutes during the wee hours of the morning after the partying had finished. Janma & Adam were absolutely incredible, despite the sub-zero conditions, but I think it was worth it 😉 Mt Cook is famous for its night skies and is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve.
Enjoy the adventure.
Bonus points for anyone who can spot the kiwi in the night sky below in Janma & Adam’s milky way wedding photos:
Thanks once again to Janma & Adam for being so legendary! It was so beautiful, but very cold, but so worth it!
