Cape Reinga Sunset.. and stingray encounter

We arrived at Tapotupotu Bay in the mid afternoon, erected our tent against the beach front again, and took a quick swim to freshen up. I had one of our cameras with us, to capture the amazing water, and some fun splash shots with Katrina. Whilst I was wading through the water, I suddenly felt the floor beneath me, pull away quickly like a rug under my feet being ripped away. The firm jelly-like texture gave it away. I knew it was a stingray I had just trod on. Katrina thought it was another tall-tail. She dived into the next wave, and came face to face with a monster 2 metre sting ray. Cue, end of our swim. 😉 Following this, we ventured around the coastline to see the rockpools towards Spirits Bay. As evening progressed, we drove up to Cape Reinga and the lighthouse to watch the sun set over the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean.
